First "Ding" In The Windshield

On November 28, 2007, I was driving north on I-435 (north of I-70) in the Kansas City area when my windshield received its first ding from a flying pebble! Waaaaaaaah! I was a little sad about it at the time. Sad

Soon after, I pulled out the camera and did my best to zoom-in on the small crack in the windshield as seen in the photo above. Now I realize a "ding" in the windshield is hardly the end of the world in any way, shape or form, but I guess it bothered me. I'll blame my "new car syndrome" on that.

Soon I will be making phone calls around town to figure out if I can have that small crack repaired, or whether I will need to buy a brand new windshield.

Today I captured a photo of the entire windshield on my Honda Civic. I am really impressed with just how slanted the windshield is for aerodynamic purposes. My friend Kelly, who drives a Jeep Wrangler with a windshield that is practically vertical, said she has received several "dings" in her windshield and she attributes part of it to the harsh angle pebbles likely hit the glass. When I heard this, I felt much more grateful for the design of my Civic's windshield. Wink

What was I doing in Kansas City, you ask? Well, I spent two weeks and five days driving round trip from Colorado to New Jersey, with stops in Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota, Minnesota, New Jersey and Kansas. I had a really great trip and am so grateful to God to have this brand new car!

(Notice that you can not see the small crack in the second photo.)

Hey, Steve! So sorry about that first ding and radial cracks. I sure hope you have found someone to fix that before the weather makes the cracks extend. I have had several glass dings fixed by a guy that works under a canopy at an auto shop. He puts some sort of epoxy in there to fill in the damage, then cures it with a blue light. He says that when you get a new ding, to place a clear sticker over it, so that water and dirt does not settle in the ding. Then, have it fixed as soon as you can.

Invariably, I get windshield dings when I travel the busy, debris-strewn, big truck-filled freeways of my big city. Sad
